COOKIE CONSTRUCTION PARTY, DECEMBER 2012.
Thanks for checking out the Open Studio blog!
At Open Studio, we try to make the space open and flexible to those who wish to create. Sometimes we have “themes” to inspire members to try something new. Most recently, we’ve been putting on skill share nights in which we learn a new skill…like printmaking or bookmaking!
In December, a local printmaker came and showed up the tricks of the trade behind relief printing using carving tools and linoleum.
This month, we are learning how to make books and experimenting with different binding techniques. We are convinced we’ll never have to buys our own notebooks ever again!
Photos coming soon…
Here are some sweet collages from Teresa, Jenn, Cole, Kevin, and Sara.
Last week, artists Geoff Holstad, Mary Rothlisberger, Ryan Greaves, and Colin McCarthy visited Open Studio Night to talk about their experience with the recently formed roaming residency known as Cabin Time. For C.T.’s second ever trip, 18 artists (some returning, some new) travelled to Bogus Lake, in Grand Marais Minnesota in May. In anticipation of their art reception that weekend, we got to hear a little sneak peak into their experiences with this unconventional residency.

If you missed the interview, you can catch it here! The interview was documented and featured as the first episode of Marlee Grace and Mike Wolf’s new podcast “WE GOT THIS.”
A “Get Well Soon” card.
Birthday Card from a Michigander.
Encouragement from Mike Tyson, naturally.
Several weeks ago, we combined old cards with collage material on-hand to create goofy greeting cards! Creating goofy cards was a great fusion of recycling and collage with visual and sentimental expression! Here are a few of the goofy greeting cards that Mindy made. Great cards, Mindy - and thanks for the Goofy Greeting Card idea!
